Free Heart Sewing Tutorial – Easy Fabric Heart for Valentine’s Day

Materials Needed:

For this fabric heart sewing project, you’ll need:

• Fabric scraps (a great scrap-buster project, I used leftovers from my fabric box)
• Fiberfill stuffing
• Pinking shears
• Stella Pattern Studio printable heart template
• Sewing machine or needle and thread

Getting Started

Cut out the printable heart template and place it on your fabric.
Lay the fabric wrong sides together, with the right sides facing out.

Using an erasable pen, trace the heart shape onto the fabric.
Do not cut the fabric yet.

Sewing & Stuffing the Heart

Sew directly on the drawn line, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff the heart with polyfill through the opening until it feels soft and evenly filled.

Once the heart is stuffed, sew the opening closed along the remaining drawn line.

Finishing Touches

Trim around the heart using pinking shears, about 1/8"–1/4" (3–5 mm) outside the stitching line.

If you like, you can add a ribbon or loop for hanging.
These stuffed fabric hearts look beautiful styled in bowls, baskets, or trays for Valentine’s Day décor, or used as small handmade gifts any time of year.
