Here's a short tutorial on how to sew a Fabric Tulip

✂️ Materials You'll Need for one Tulip: Cotton fabric in two colors: 9" x 6" (22x15cm) One for the tulip head; 11" x 9" (28x23cm) One for the stem and leaf; Polyester fiberfill; Matching thread; Sewing machine; Fabric marker or chalk; Scissors (pinking shears recommended); Iron; Hemostat or chopstick (for turning the stem) and our FREE PATTERN DOWNLOAD HERE

🌷 Quick How-To: Fabric Tulip:

Sew the Tulip Petal:
Cut 1 petal piece from fabric, measuring 9" x 6" (22x15 cm). Fold the long raw edges to the wrong side by ¼" (6 mm) and press. Fold the petal in half lengthwise, with right sides together. Pin in place and machine stitch along the long edge. Using needle and thread, hand sew a running stitch around the folded edge (the wider, open side). Gently pull the thread to gather — but do not close completely, as you'll insert the stem.

Sew the Stem:
Cut a green fabric rectangle approximately 2" x 8" (5 x 20 cm) — this is enough for both the stem and the leaf. Use the free pattern template to draw and cut out the stem. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew along the long edge. Leave one short end open to turn the stem right side out. Turn the stem right side out using a hemostat or chopstick. Stuff the stem tightly with Polyfill so that it feels firm and holds its shape. ➡️ Watch the quick process video right here!

Attach the Stem:
Insert the open end of the stem into the gathered base of the tulip. Hand sew the stem in place with small, secure stitches to ensure it is firmly attached. Turn the petal right side out and add a small amount of Polyfill to fill the lower part of the tulip. Pinch the sides of the tulip and tack them in place with a few stitches to shape the bloom and give it a realistic look.

Tailor and Sew the Leaf:
Draw the leaf shape onto doubled fabric and stitch along the line. Cut out with pinking shears (if you have them; if not, use regular sewing scissors), then turn the leaf right side out and press. Fold in the raw edge and wrap it around the stem. Sew the leaf in place using a ladder stitch (sew about 2 cm or 0.8 inches), adjusting its position along the stem as desired.
